Daniel Negreanu Takes Home Second PGT Trophy of the Year in Event: #3 $5,100 Pot-Limit Omaha

The 2024 PT PLO Series presented by PLO Mastermind continued at the PokerGO Studio from ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada with Event #3: $5,100 Pot-Limit Omaha.

The 118-entrant field created a prize pool of $590,000, with the final six players guaranteed a payday of at least $29,500. Among those to cash were Ian Matakis (17th), Alex Condon (16th), Dominique Mosley (15th), and Lautaro Guerra (12th). 

Daniel Negreanu defeated Anuj Agarwal heads-up to capture his first title of the series, and his second title of the 2024 PGT season, as well as the $147,500 first-place prize. 

After having a suboptimal 2023, Negreanu vowed a "quality over quantity" approach to 2024, and so far it looks like it's paying off. This was Negreanu's eighth final table in 2024 PGT Series' and his second victory. Today's win will take Negreanu's lifetime earnings to a staggering $52,415,149, where he currently sits at number seven on poker's all-time money list according to The Hendon Mob.

Negreanu entered as the overall chip leader and would remain there most of the day. It wasn't until heads-up play that Agarwal would close the gap and eventually take over the chip lead.

Action got off to a quick start as San Diegan, Lance Patel, was the first one eliminated in sixth place when his aces couldn't hold against the two pair of Curtis Muller. Patel earned $29,500 for the showing. 

Dylan Weisman entered the day fourth in chips, behind Bruno Furth, and although the PLO guru can never be counted out at a final table, he ran into trouble early when he made a river fold in a big pot to Negreanu, leaving him short. Negreanu would go on to eliminate Weisman a few hands later when he ran his ace-king suited into the aces of Negreanu. 

Curtis Muller would head out the door in fourth place, taking home a payday just north of $50K. Muller entered the day as one of the short stacks after being chip leader for a large part of Day 1. Agarwal doubled early through Muller when he caught an ace on the river to crack Muller's pocket queens. Agarwal would seal Muller's fate a few hands later when, short on chips, ran his pocket jacks into the pocket aces of Agarwal.

The third-place finisher was Las Vegas pro, Bruno Furth. Furth started the day third overall in chips, but after failing to get much going early on, Furth clashed with Negreanu in a button vs blind battle that left him with less than enough for the big blind and ante, which he would be all-in on two hands later. Agarwal would be the one to eventually send him home when he turned a full house, leaving Furth drawing dead. Furth took home nearly $65K for his effort. 

Negreanu started heads-up play with a little more than a 2-1 chip lead over Agarwal, but it would be all Agerwal early on, winning multiple hands in a row to close the gap and eventually take over the chip lead. However, the tide would turn when Negreanu would go on his own late run, getting Agarwal to check-fold a few hands in medium-sized pots, then double through Agerwal when his two-pair held against Agarwal's massive draw. This would leave Agarwal crippled, with only 1,500,000 to Negreanu's 13,250,000. The money would go in a hand later and Negreanu would make an ace-high flush to eliminate Agarwal as the runner-up. Agarwal took home nearly $95K, the seventh biggest cash of his career.

PGT PLO Series Top 10 Leaderboard

Following today's win in Event #3, Daniel Negreanu moves up to third in overall points with 148 PGT points. The top three players on the PGT leaderboard all have one win each and Allan Le remains on top with 183 PGT points, with Finland's Eelis Parssinen sitting in second with 175 PGT points. The top three spots are separated by only 35 points. 

Bryce Yockey is currently fourth, with 126 PGT points and rounding out the top five is Isaac Kempton with 113 PGT points.
